1. What is HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene)?

HIPS stands for High Impact Polystyrene, a modified amorphous thermoplastic derived from general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS). Pure GPPS is extremely brittle and cracks easily upon slight collision. Manufacturers add butadiene rubber particles into polystyrene resin to absorb impact energy, which greatly upgrades its anti-drop performance and creates HIPS.

1.Appearance & Color Matching

Natural HIPS is matte milky white, fully opaque without transparency. It supports stable solid color tinting (black, orange, green, pink etc.) and delivers uniform coloring for injection-molded products like plastic cups, toy shells and packaging containers.

2.Excellent Printing Performance

No surface corona treatment is required before screen printing, pad printing or hot stamping. Ink adheres firmly to HIPS surfaces, making it ideal for products with custom brand logos and patterns.

HIPS melts smoothly during injection molding, with low shrinkage rate after cooling. It shortens production cycles and fits mass production on standard injection machines, reducing defective rates for thin-wall daily products.

Max long-term service temperature: ≤60°C. It deforms under hot water, microwave or dishwasher heat, only suitable for cold/room-temperature use.

Poor oil resistance: Long-time contact with grease causes whitening and surface corrosion.

Brittle in low-temperature environments; not recommended for outdoor winter use.

Low wear resistance compared to ABS; scratches form easily under hard friction PMC.
