What is Tritan™ Material?
Tritan™ is a next-generation copolyester developed by Eastman Chemical Company, a leading American chemical manufacturer. Since its market debut in 2007, it has become one of the most highly regarded high-performance, eco-friendly materials in the plastics industry.
Material Composition & Structure
Tritan™ is scientifically classified as Tritan Copolyester. It is an engineering plastic synthesized through the copolymerization of specific monomers. Its core components include:
- Dimethyl Terephthalate (DMT): Provides the rigid benzene ring structure, giving the material its strength and heat resistance.
- 1,4-Cyclohexanedimethanol (CHDM): Comprising over 50% of the composition, this component enhances the flexibility and chemical stability of the molecular chain.
- 2,2,4,4-Tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol (TMCD): A key modifying monomer that significantly increases the glass transition temperature and impact resistance.
Chemically, it is classified as modified Poly(1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate) (modified PCT) , with CAS number 261716-94-3. It has received certification under the Chinese national standard GB 4806.6-2016 and is approved for use in environments up to 100°C (212°F).
